WILMINGTON, Del. – Today, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) issued the following statement after the Supreme Court’s decision to bar affirmative action in college admissions.
“The Supreme Court’s decision is profoundly damaging and continues to demonstrate that it is out-of-step with the American public and is operating well outside of the judicial mainstream. The Court’s decisions continue to have incredibly harmful effects on millions of people across the country - well captured by the powerful words of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.
‘With let-them-eat-cake obliviousness, today, the majority pulls the ripcord and announces “colorblindness for all” by legal fiat. But deeming race irrelevant in law does not make it so in life. And having so detached itself from this country’s actual past and present experiences, the Court has now been lured into interfering with the crucial work that UNC and other institutions of higher learning are doing to solve America’s real-world problems.’”
