WASHINGTON - Today, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.), issued the following statement after voting against the House Republican Israel supplemental funding bill which failed to pass the House. “The supplemental funding proposal that came to the House floor today was not a realistic, bipartisan solution to the national security risks we are facing as a nation. Critically, the bill excluded funding for much-needed humanitarian assistance to innocent Palestinian civilians, for Ukraine’s ability to continue to defend itself from Putin’s unprovoked war, for mutual security and economic interests with Taiwan, and for our bipartisan efforts to secure the southern border. This proposal directly undermined the bipartisan work that is happening in the Senate and got us no closer to peace in the Middle East, stability in the Indo-Pacific, or delivered the critical assistance needed for Ukraine or eased the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. A real solution is for Speaker Johnson to support President Biden’s efforts and negotiate with the Senate on a comprehensive, bipartisan package.”
