WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons, along with Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (all D-Del.), announced a $75,320 grant to the City of Seaford through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program. The grant will allow the City of Seaford to perform solar lighting retrofits on 52 existing streetlights in two outdoor public spaces. The EECBG Program is designed to fund a wide range of energy efficiency and decarbonization projects aimed at improving energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, and lowering overall energy use to help save residents money on energy in the long run. Funding for this grant came from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Senators Carper and Coons and Rep. Blunt Rochester all helped author and pass into law.
“The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program has been instrumental in helping communities across the country reduce emissions, conserve energy, and lower energy costs. Now, the City of Seaford will see many of those same improvements thanks to this $75,000 grant made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law,” said Senator Carper, Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. “I commend the Biden Administration for their work preparing American communities for our clean energy future, and I look forward to seeing the many ways that this program will positively impact Delawareans.”
“As a former New Castle County Executive who received money from the EECBG program, I know how helpful this funding source is for local governments and the lives of Delawareans. As an appropriator and key negotiator of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, I’m glad I can continue to support this crucial grant program,” said Senator Coons, Co-Chair of the Senate Climate Solutions Caucus. “The future is literally brighter in Seaford thanks to this funding that will save residents money, make their streets safer, and create a more sustainable future for everyone.”
“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law continues to make critical investments in our communities while pushing us towards a clean energy future,” said Rep. Blunt Rochester. “I am proud to join Senators Carper and Coons in celebrating this grant announcement, made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that I championed in Congress, that will increase Seaford’s energy efficiency and improve community safety.”
“We are very grateful for the financial support of our Federal Delegation to help our City be more energy efficient ultimately saving our residents money,” said Seaford Mayor David Genshaw. |
