WASHINGTON - Today, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) announced that April-Thomas Jones, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Delaware, will be her guest at President Biden’s State of the Union Address to Congress. April joined Planned Parenthood of Delaware in November 2023 and is the first person of color to lead the organization. Her presence is representative of the ongoing fight to protect reproductive freedom and expand access to reproductive care – a major theme President Biden is expected to focus on during his address.
“Our most fundamental freedoms and rights are at stake – from voting rights to reproductive freedom. In this moment, when reproductive freedom is being attacked in states across the country, Planned Parenthood’s health care services and support have never been more important,” said Rep. Blunt Rochester. “That’s why my guest for President Biden’s State of the Union address tonight will be April Thomas-Jones, the President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Delaware. Her presence underscores our collective commitment to not only protecting reproductive rights but expanding them across America.”
“I'm so grateful for this opportunity to attend the State of the Union with our Congresswoman who cares deeply about the reproductive health of every Delawarean,” said April Thomas-Jones, Planned Parenthood of Delaware President and CEO. “She also understands that the key word in our conversations about reproductive healthcare in the First State should be access. Abortion and gender affirming care are legal in Delaware, but depending on where you live and what resources you have in your community you may or may not be able to get that care. I'm proud to stand with Lisa Blunt Rochester in amplifying the needs of marginalized communities and ensuring that everyone in Delaware gets high-quality care.”
