WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE-AL), who recently traveled on a congressional delegation visit to study the region, issued the following statement regarding President Trump’s recent comments about aid to Central America. “I traveled to the Northern Triangle to learn more about the economic challenges, human rights concerns, and governments in need of reform that prompt Central Americans to leave their homes and endure the dangerous trek to freedom,” said Congresswoman Blunt Rochester. “By ending foreign aid to El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala, we are undermining some of the best tools we have to empower people and their governments to take control of their own destinies. The Administration and State Department may say that this will help stem irregular migration, but this short-sighted decision will have the reverse effect and will only make the situation worse. I will work with my colleagues on both of sides of the aisle to reverse this decision and continue to combat the long-term drivers of irregular migration that cause far too many to flee in search of a better life.” ### |
