WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester joined with her colleagues in voting to pass H.R. 3401 as amended by the Senate, providing much-needed emergency funding for the humanitarian crisis at the border. “While I am disappointed that the House version of the emergency funding bill will not be enacted, the humanitarian crisis on our Southern Border necessitates immediate action and this bill accomplishes that. My priority is ensuring that children under the care of the United States government are safe and appropriately cared for - this vote reflects that priority,” said Congresswoman Blunt Rochester. “As I said when the House passed our version of the emergency funding bill earlier this week, money alone will not solve this problem. It is time for the Senate to begin working with us on comprehensive immigration reform. While the Senate version of the emergency funding package does not include some of the oversight language I would have liked, it is still within the prerogative of the Congress to conduct oversight on how this money is spent. I am confident that House Democrats will do just that, and continue our work to hold this Administration accountable. Now that the Administration has the funds they need, it is imperative that they act quickly to put those funds to appropriate use and rectify the conditions at the border.” ### |
