WILMINGTON, DE - Today, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) issued the following statement on Memorial Day. “There is simply no greater or profound sacrifice that one can make than to lay down their life for their country. On Memorial Day, we remember and honor those who, in the words of Lincoln, gave their last full measure of devotion. The ideals that founded and have sustained this great nation are truly unique and indelible. What makes them, and us, more unique is that so many willingly fight, sacrifice, and die for those values and ideals. There are no words that can properly quantify the debt that we owe those who made that ultimate sacrifice - nor are there words that can bring a full measure of comfort to their families, who themselves have sacrificed immeasurably. But on Memorial Day, we come together to shed our political, geographical, religious, and social differences to acknowledge the magnitude of that sacrifice. We come together to remember our history, to say the names of the fallen so that we may never forget the humanity of their sacrifice. And we come together to recommit ourselves to those truly unique values we hold so dear.” ### |
