Blunt Rochester Votes to Keep Government Open, Honor Full Faith and Credit of the United States

Today, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) voted to pass a Continuing Resolution that includes provisions extending government funding through December 3, and two emergency supplemental funding bills that address recent natural disasters and address the resettlement of Afghan evacuees. Importantly, this legislation also meets new, timely and important needs, including helping families devastated by recent natural disasters and helping resettle Afghan evacuees fleeing danger.
This funding bill includes a suspension of the debt limit through December 2022. Addressing the debt limit is about meeting obligations the government has already made, including to Social Security recipients, to our veterans, and to the millions who have benefited from the bipartisan COVID relief legislation passed in December – which was authored by multiple GOP Senators and voted for by more than 40 Republicans and signed into law by the previous president.
“Today, along with my House Democratic colleagues, I voted to keep the government of the United States open and operating along with voting to responsibly meet the obligations of the federal government,” said Blunt Rochester. “While I’m disappointed that my Republican colleagues didn’t join us to carry out this most basic task of governance, I’m hopeful that the Senate will quickly take up this measure to avoid a potentially disastrous and entirely avoidable default.”
