WILMINGTON, Del. – Today, Representative Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) issued the following statement on the passing of former Wilmington City Council Member Rysheema Dixon.

“Today is a profoundly sad day for Delaware as we grieve the untimely and tragic loss of former Wilmington City Council Member Rysheema Dixon. A professor, entrepreneur, and public servant, Councilwoman Dixon dedicated the better part of her life to helping others. Those lucky enough to work with her in any capacity saw first-hand her commitment, passion, and love for her community and its people. It was those guiding principles that inspired her to run for City Council where she spent the past five years pursuing policies to improve public schools, address the housing crisis, and combat racial disparity in Wilmington. Most recently, she served as Executive Director of Delaware Pathways to Apprenticeship where she helped low-wealth individuals and returning citizens gain the skills, confidence, and connections to secure apprenticeships – a common passion we both shared. I had the privilege of visiting the program where I got to witness first-hand Councilwoman Dixon’s dedication to the participants and their respect for her.

“I extend my deepest condolences to Councilwoman Dixon’s friends, family, and all who knew her. Her selflessness, leadership, and example will undoubtedly leave a lasting legacy on the City of Wilmington – one that I, and so many who knew her, are forever grateful.”
