Rep. Blunt Rochester Statement on Ukrainian President Zelensky’s Address to Joint Session of Congress

Washington, December 21, 2022 | Andrew Donnelly (302-893-4406)

WASHINGTON - Today, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) issued the following statement after attending a joint session of Congress where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the American people.

“It was a singular honor to be in attendance for tonight’s joint session of Congress to hear directly from Ukrainian President Zelensky. Nearly 300 days have passed since Russia’s unprovoked, unwarranted, and unacceptable invasion of Ukraine. In those intervening months, the people of the United States and the world have seen the remarkable bravery and resolve of the Ukrainian people - fearlessly led by President Zelensky. Tonight’s speech was a stark reminder that, while Ukraine has done an incredible job pushing back the advances of Russia’s aggression, this war is not over.

“President Zelensky also affirmed that the support and assistance of the United States have been invaluable in Ukraine’s success thus far in the conflict and unscored why it’s so important that support continues. Put plainly - Ukraine’s security and democratic ideals are inextricably tied to our security, our ideals, and those of our allies. Tonight, I was humbled to sit in our cathedral of democracy as a modern-day champion of its ideals addressed Congress.”
