WASHINGTON – Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) will be joined by Dr. Nishelle Hines, the President and CEO of the Delaware Chapter of Black Nurses Rock (BNR), at President Biden’s State of the Union Address to Congress on February 7, 2023. Dr. Hines is representative of the many hard-working, dedicated nurses across Delaware that are integral to administering quality care despite an ongoing national workforce shortage of nurses and health care professionals brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In October of 2022, Dr. Hines participated in a roundtable conversation hosted by Blunt Rochester about the impact of the nursing workforce shortage on Delaware’s health care sector. The conversation also highlighted Blunt Rochester’s bipartisan, bicameral bill, the National Nursing Workforce Center Act, that would bring localized, on-the-ground support for states, such as Delaware, to either establish more Nursing Workforce Centers (NWC) or support their current centers to help with the recruitment and retention of nurses nationwide.
“I am so pleased to have Dr. Hines join me as my guest for this year’s State of the Union Address,” said Rep. Blunt Rochester. “Dr. Hines is a fierce advocate for nurses in Delaware, working to empower Black nurses across our state through professional development and mentorship so they can guide Delawareans seeking care through community outreach and education. She has seen first-hand how the Biden administration’s investments in our health care system have helped relieve the stress placed onto our hospitals, facilities, and health care workers when they were faced with the most unprecedented challenge. These investments have helped nurses just like Dr. Hines return to work and strengthen our economy and health care system at the same time. I was proud to have her input and expertise at a roundtable conversation I hosted last year on the nursing workforce shortage impacting the health care sector, and I thank her for joining me tonight to represent Delaware’s extraordinary nurses that help keep us healthy, safe, and supported.”
Dr. Nishelle Hines is the President of the Delaware Chapter of Black Nurses Rock, a national organization focused on inspiring and empowering members to serve and educate vulnerable communities through health care education. Prior to her leadership of the BNR, Dr. Nishelle Hines served as a registered nurse, an Army Officer in the U.S Army Reserve, and is a former U.S. Postal Service worker.
