Rep. Blunt Rochester Statement on the Two-Year Anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization Decision

WASHINGTON — Today, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) released the following statement on two years since the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization:

“Today marks two years since the Supreme Court released its unprecedented decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization which overturned the protections of Roe v. Wade. For the first time in our nation’s history, a constitutional right was taken away from millions of Americans. Overnight, women across America woke up to a fundamentally different nation. One where they had fewer rights than those fought by and awarded to their mothers and grandmothers before them. Since then, 14 states have completely banned abortion and one in three women nationwide lack access to abortion care. Doctors and health care providers now fear criminal prosecution for providing essential care, and women across America, especially those in low-income or rural communities, are unable to get the care they need.

“Today, I join my colleagues in the Democratic Women’s Caucus in continuing to denounce this regressive decision. We have a fundamental right to reproductive freedom. However, we know that attacks on women’s bodily autonomy extend beyond abortion, so we must also advance legislation to protect in vitro fertilization (IVF) and contraception so that women can decide for themselves when, if, and how to start a family. The fight for women’s equality is far from over, but we have a responsibility to continue pushing forward. Like I have said before: there’s no room in our wombs for politicians.”
