WILMINGTON, Del. — Today, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) released the following statement following the Biden-Harris Administration’s historic announcement yesterday that Medicare has reached agreements to lower the cost of all 10 prescription drugs selected for the first round of price negotiation: “As a Member of the Health Subcommittee, ensuring access to reliable, high-quality, and affordable health care has been a major priority of mine in Congress. Advancing this goal has been incredibly important in my work, from helping author legislation to drive down the costs of drugs, to connecting seniors in my state to resources and education on affordable care, to defending the Affordable Care Act and those with preexisting conditions. That is why today, I join in celebrating this step forward in achieving that goal. The Biden-Harris Administration has once again delivered on its promise to lower costs for American families. “Yesterday’s announcement marks a significant step forward, with reductions in the prices of ten of the most expensive prescription drugs, making essential care that much more accessible. More than 34,000 Delawareans take at least one of the drugs included on this list, and these lower prices will save seniors $1.5 billion nationwide in just the first year. On the two-year anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act, which capped monthly insulin costs for Medicare recipients, reduced health care costs by an average of $2,400 per family and enabled nearly 30,000 Delawareans to save an average of $601 per month on health insurance premiums, we continue to honor our commitment to affordable health care.” ### |
