WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) issued the following statement after voting to pass a continuing resolution to extend funding for the federal government through March 2025: “Today, as I cast my final vote as a member of the House, I voted to pass a continuing resolution to enable the federal government to continue serving the American people. I am proud that this package included policies that I’ve been fighting for – from extending telehealth policies to $500 million for childcare providers and facilities across the country impacted by recent disasters. With this package, we were able to prevent critical programs from expiring so Americans can continue to reap the benefits. But let me be clear – we must work to find longer term solutions, like what Democrats and Republicans originally agreed on.
“While this measure was an important step toward averting a damaging government shutdown, I am deeply disappointed that Republican leadership walked away from the bipartisan agreement struck earlier this week that included many of the provisions I fought for that would have moved this nation forward. These provisions included landmark reforms that I’ve been working hard to secure – such as holding pharmacy benefit managers accountable, legislation to fortify our broken supply chains and safeguard our national security, and substantial investments in our federally qualified health centers. It is unfortunate that good policy – which Democrats and Republicans alike advocated for on behalf of our constituents – was carved out at the whim of an online post.
“For Delaware and the nation, this CR will prevent the lasting harm of a government shutdown. However, we should have advanced our strong, bipartisan bill that was the result of year’s long work and compromise. These are bipartisan policies that the American people deserve and need. Given their overwhelming bipartisan support, I urge the incoming President and congressional Republicans to advance these issues as soon as possible in the new year.
“Just as I did when I entered the House, I am leaving today remaining laser-focused on finding bipartisan solutions, governing responsibly, and putting the people of Delaware first.”
